Manage Persons

A person profile on RecordRanks represents one person who participates in competitions from a given space, or organises them. One person can only have one profile in a space.

RecordRanks makes it easy to manage person profiles. This guide explains how to use the Manage Persons page to create, edit and delete person profiles, and how the approval process works.

Creating new person profiles

To create a new person profile, click Create person profile and enter the person's full name and region of representation. Any records they set will correspond to that region, and they'll show up in the rankings for that region, when the filter is enabled. You can also optionally enter a localised name (e.g. using the writing script of the person's home country).

Once you have submitted the new profile, you'll see it in the list of persons for the space. It'll also become available to select as the competitor on the results entry page, as an organiser when creating new competitions, and everywhere else where you have to select a person.

Person profiles are specific to the space they were created for, and aren't accessible from other spaces.

Spaces with the type speedcubing also have a WCA ID field, which links the person to the corresponding profile on the WCA website. These spaces allow creating a new profile simply by entering the WCA ID, and then the details are automatically pulled from the WCA website. This can be done by any space member, not just admins and moderators.

Approval process

By default, new profiles are added with the unapproved state. Space admins can review and approve person profiles. Once a profile is approved, it can only be edited by a space admin, not a moderator. The approval process is an optional feature, and an admin team can choose not to use it for their space.

Profiles added via the WCA ID for spaces with type speedcubing are approved automatically.

Managing person profiles

It's possible to edit person profiles to update their details. The region cannot be edited currently, since it can affect the records history. Contact support if you need to change a person's region. Moderators can only edit unapproved profiles.

Admins also have access to delete profiles that aren't used for anything. If the profile has competition results, is listed as an organiser for any competition, or is tied to a member profile, deletion will be prevented. It's safe to click delete, since the aforementioned checks are done automatically.
